If Hygge Were a Sweater…

I’m positive I’ll feel differently at the tail-end of this season, but I have been so enjoying the dipping temperatures here in New England.  The bite in the air is starting to keep us indoors more often than not, which can only mean one thing…hygge season is officially here.

I was first introduced to the concept of hygge by a dear friend (hey Liz!!!), a little over a year ago, and I fell completely in love with the concept.  In a nutshell, hygge is the Danish art of happiness that centers around enjoying simple, charming, and cozy pleasures.  Think lots of tea, books, blankets, candles, home-made meals enjoyed at home with friends and family, and, of course, comfortable clothes.

If all the coziness of the hygge spirit could be embodied in one article of clothing, this cardigan would be it.  It’s warm without feeling suffocating, soft, and not even a little bit itchy.  I love the longer length, slouchy sleeves, and braided knit pattern of this sweater too; they just scream “drinking hot cocoa by the fire.”  I’d equate the feeling of wearing this to wrapping yourself in a blanket to relax after a long day, or having the first sip from a steaming mug of coffee on a bright winter morning.

Since buying this beaut a few months ago, I’ve been loving pairing it with jeans, cardigans, and booties.  I think it could also be equally cute tossed over a dress or a vintage tee and leggings.  I know I’ll be spending many a winter day and night wearing this piece…even if  my only destination is the couch with a book!

You can recreate this look with any cream-colored sweater you have on hand, or find mine here.***

Do you have a favorite piece you’re keeping cozy in this season? I’d love to hear!

***I purchased this sweater with my own money.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.
